Buying in bulk always reminds me of the Seinfeld episode when Kramer bought too much and had to unload the huge cans he purchased and had to feed it to the handsome cab ride horse. When going shopping at the warehouse clubs, you don’t have to load up on the ten-pound jar of mayonnaise or the twenty-pound can of tuna that will look ridiculous in your house, not to mention expire by the time you have a chance to eat. There are, however, purchases you can make that you can buy in bulk that can stand the test of time.
White Rice
No matter if you’re putting butter and lemon on, in soup, or mixing in a stir-fry, white rice can be used in many different types of dishes, and is pretty cheap. The best part is that, if stored properly, if could still be good to use a decade after the purchase date. Keep in mind though, this is only for white rice though, as brown rice does not hold the same in the pantry and will probably expire within a half of year of so.
Kick Up with Hot Sauce
Whether you are putting on eggs in the morning, adding to chili, or topping to tacos, hot sauce can be put on just about anything to add a little extra spice, and the best part, you can buy a huge bottle and not worry about going bad for a few years. In fact, it could actually get even more hot over time, so take caution and taste test along the way. With so many options out there at various levels of hotness, try plenty out to see what you like, and even have a hot sauce tasting contest to separate the men from the boys.
Dig Out the Ramen Noodles
Once maybe a staple in the college dorm room, and probably hiding in the back of your pantry are the packages of ramen noodles, that surprisingly are probably still good! While you can probably throw about the little flavor packet (salt, and more salt) and opt for more natural, healthy seasonings that you probably have in your cupboard that is a lot better for you. Sure, a little salt in your diet is fine, but the amount in that little seasoning package is crazy. For a few cents a package, buying in bulk could make sense, they’re good for years, and you can create your own ramen dishes.
Multi-Uses of Oats
Oats seem to be a popular trend these days, whether it is mixing with yogurt or making granola bars, it can make a healthy breakfast or snack for all ages. If stored correctly in tight containers you can look forward to always having in your pantry when you are in the mood, for years to come. You can make your own cereal as well by adding a few extra touches, and you can avoid the high sugar content of the more appealing, but unhealthy cereal options you can choose from.
